GREETINGS & SALUTATIONS SOUTH DAKOTANS'. My name is Dr. Terry L. LaFleur (i.e. doctor of law), and I want to be your next governor, and I'll need your help of course! I need to discuss the topic of universal healthcare and what that means to me and you! Right now, South Dakotan's have a few choices addressing their healthcare needs. I believe that true universal healthcare should be affordable, efficient and fair for each and every resident of South Dakota. Not just for the top __% of the state's population that can afford to pay the premiums, co-pays and deductibles. I want to make it accessible to every man, woman, and child no matter what lane on life's road you're traveling. Only legal residents will be eligible to partake in this universal healthcare plan.
What I want to create is a universal healthcare plan that proposes a flat premium for individuals, couples, and couples with children. Individual premium will cost $50 per month, married couples premiums will cost $75 per month and couples with children premiums will cost $100 per month + $15 per month / per child, if they have more then two children (i.e. 3+ children).
The deductibles will be $50 / $100 for general medical services and surgical intervention services. These deductibles are required to be paid for each necessary visit to the medical provider, for necessary treatment and/or preventive care. However, patients' with chronic health conditions will not be charged per visit when long term universal healthcare is required. Therefore, deductibles will be capped at $300 for general universal healthcare services and $600 for intervention services if for the same incident or occurrence. Looks similar to auto insurance deductibles, right? That's because it is, sort of!
There will not be any co-pays whatsoever! We will put together an Advisory Committee to set caps on what procedures provided by hospitals and doctors can be charged for. Medical providers' will be required to ratify these caps or they will be excluded from participating within our universal healthcare plan. Universal healthcare should never be withheld because it costs to much! No man, woman, or child should go without medical treatment just because they are less fortunate then the person setting beside them in the waiting room. When it comes down to universal healthcare, everyone should be treated equally.
Medicare and Medicaid typically do not cover every medical procedure and/or prescription recommended by the treating physician. Under our universal health plan this will no longer be the case. Every necessary treatment (e.g. IMP, IME, prognosis or diagnosis, and prescription) will be covered within our universal healthcare plan. Moreover, if a pharmaceutical company wants to market their products in South Dakota, they too must ratify the caps the Advisory Committee sets for these prescription medicines they sell. If there's any deficiency between the actual cost and the cap set by the A.C. then they can possibly deduct the loss off their federal tax liability. It's insane that a miracle treatment for cancer should cost thousands of dollars. There's only one God, and pharmaceutical company's should not be allowed to play God with human lives'. How much $ is enough! To leverage the lives' of people for corporate profit is unconscionable!
Our citizens' have been at the mercy of the pharmaceutical and insurance company's for decades and it's going to stop! Again, there's only one God and these bureaucrats can't see anything past their profit margins. Oh we get it right? They don't make money if they pay out on claims, right? I will always ask "why?" Why are they in the business if they are in it for the money? Why is the almighty $ worth more then a human life? You get it, right?
I will be blogging on every platform issue I believe in from now to election time. Look for the next blog soon. Of course, I cannot think of everything, so if there's an issue your concerned about, just bring it up! I can't do this by myself. I'm going to need every South Dakotan's help to get these ideas converted into active policy actions. Take a look at my campaign website. Click Here!
