ZERO TAX ON FOOD AND NECESSITIES, PUTS MORE $ IN YOUR MONTHLY BUDGET!
ZERO TAX ON FOOD AND NECESSITIES!
Greetings & Salutations South Dakotans'!
Today, I want to discuss why I believe we need to repeal the sales tax on groceries & other necessities we use every day, and what this could mean to you, the consumer! First, I believe that sales tax on groceries and other necessities is wrong! This is not a new idea. Other states' have had zero sales tax on food for decades. South Dakota seems to not want to follow this strategy because the State legislature just enacted a .5% sales tax increase recently. It has gone from 4.0% to 4.5%. Counties and cities across the state have increased taxes too!
In 2014 our State brought in more then 1.1 billion sales and use tax dollars, from the state, county and local levels. In 2015, there was an increase of 0.87%, totally a 7.231% increase over the previous year at the State level alone. All-in-all consumers' in South Dakota have given up a tremendous asset here, that could be put to better use, if left remaining in our pockets!
There are other sources that can be raised to close the tax gap here, such as tax on cigarettes, alcohol, and gaming ventures. Because not all consumers participate in these extracurricular activities, the tax burden falls where it should be.
I believe that no one should have to pay tax on groceries, or necessities like laundry soap, toilet paper, hygiene items, diapers, etc., etc. These things consumers need to survive day-to-day life. I also believe that utilities should not be taxed, but as I have stated before, in an effort to improve our utility infrastructure, the tax on utilities will be capped at 1.5% and this tax revenue will be used exclusively for rebuilding our energy resources infrastructures'.
Consumers' are being taxed into the poor-house, and there doesn't seem to be an end to it! Consumers fuel the economy through their buying dollars, and in a free enterprise system, that's the way it should be! I want to put more economic fuel in every consumers' tank, to optimize their buying power, which will increase our monthly budgets, increase buying power, promote higher employment, and lower taxable pressure on every citizen of this state.
If I am elected Governor of South Dakota, I will not rest until I repeal the sales, use and excise taxes currently being leveraged. If you agree with my tax repeal plan, let me know! Moreover, let your state representative know too! Want to see what else we can do? Click Here!
