Greetings & Salutations my fellow South Dakotans'! As you know, the individuals opposing IM Measure 22 are pushing a bill through to repeal it in its entirety. They claim that the proponent's of IM 22 mislead voters and the measure was designed to stop political corruption, the opponents' claim does not exist!
To that claim, all I can say is, I have some reclaimed swamp land in Florida, I will sell you real cheap if you believe what they claim! Jackley transferred $700,000 from his many bank accounts, including his "Attorney General Fund"! Noem transferred $1.7 million into her 2018 campaign bank account!
According to an anonymous source in the Secretary of States Office, these funds came from special interest groups, superpacs, lobbyists, and Big Business donors. Neither one of these potential Gubernatorial candidates have that kind of money just laying around the house, and probably did not earn it on an Attorney General's or Congresswoman's salary. Where did they get it, I don't know, do you? But this is exactly what IM 22 was designed to quash. Pay for play politics! The People of America and South Dakota want 100% transparency, complete accountability, and a fair and level playing field for all resident citizens', not just the rich and elite. Ask yourself, "why don't you run for political office?" Answer is, you can't afford it!
Usually, when a politician says you have nothing to worry about, you do! I've said it before, and I'll say it again, IM 22's original intent was to stop political pay for play politics; stop superpacs, special interest groups, and lobbyists from buying State political officials! We can all play the fingers in the dam trick, but when you plug one hole, another leak starts up! Same thing occurs with campaign funding. Stop one corrupt practice and they will find another way to get the funding!
The KELOLAND news broadcast mentioned "regulating lobbyists." Ok! What about superpacs? What about Big Business donors? What about special interests groups? Do you really believe these entities donate tens of thousands, to tens of millions of campaign dollars and ask for nothing in return? Why would anyone do that with nothing in it for them?
The campaign donors treat politicians well, otherwise they wouldn't want to maintain the status quo! Having voters themselves contribute to political candidates is much fairer, transparent, and accountable! Bernie Sanders had the right idea! I voted for Donald J. Trump! Nothing is going to change in politics until the "People of South Dakota" take back their state government! Reclaim it from pay for play politicians who do not have our interests at heart! A law like IM 22 would accomplish this very goal. Strike the pork belly from IM 22 and it can be workable and Constitutional!
I've read the petition filed by the plaintiffs'! One thread that runs through the entire suit is "almost every party of interest" has a contractual interest, or monetary benefit in leaving everything as is! They're either State Senators' or Representatives', whose employer, a relative or they themselves have some lobbyist interest in repealing IM 22! Just because someone has a business agreement with lobbyists, OMG, the sound of that statement alone makes me cringe, doesn't mean that corruption doesn't also exist! All the plaintiffs' have lucrative financial agreements with the richest entities in the state, why would they want to give up these assets? Important question, don't you think?
